How to Make the Most of an Electric Crepe Maker

If you are lucky enough to own an electric crepe maker don’t leave it languishing unloved in a kitchen cabinet. Haul it out, dust it off and set it to work enlivening your repertoire of recipes. It is too easy to get lazy and make the same old dishes you know your family likes every week, but it is worth introducing some new meals on a regular basis so that you don’t get bored.

Although it might seem like a lot of work to make batter and then make individual crepes and fillings, the great thing about it is that batter can be made in advance and fillings can be very simple, yet crepes are always delicious and go down well with families.

Make one night a week a crepe night and do your best to find a different filling every time, at least for a few months until you discover your family’s favorites. You could serve them for a main course or for dessert. For savory fillings try all different combinations of ham, cheese, cooked vegetables and white or cheese sauce. You could also use fish in a filling such as smoked salmon, creme fraiche and chives or tuna and sweetcorn in white sauce. Serve with a side salad.

When serving for dessert you could serve in the classic way with fresh lemon juice and sugar or use orange juice, sugar and a splash of Cointreau (for the adults in the family only!) Crepes are great filled with sliced banana and chocolate sauce or with mixed fruit and whipped cream.

If you run out of ideas there are lots of recipes for crepe fillings online to give you some inspiration. There will be some way to get your favorite ingredient in there!

Hopefully, this has given you the desire to use your crepe maker again or to buy one if you don’t have one already. It is so much easier than cooking a crepe in a pan unless you are a trained chef or a skilled home cook.
